Individual counselling

Hello, and welcome. I’m Claire, an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor based in central Cambridge, offering both short- and long-term counselling in person and online.

I work with adults experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including trauma and complex trauma, ADHD and AuDHD and struggles within relationships - whether that’s with partners, family, friends, or at work. Many of the people I see feel overwhelmed, stuck in old patterns, or unsure how to trust themselves and others after painful experiences.

As an integrative therapist, I draw on a range of approaches rather than one single model, so we can tailor our work to what you most need. Together, we may explore:

  • how you are feeling and coping in the present.

  • how earlier experiences and relationships may still be affecting you now.

  • how your nervous system, emotions and body hold and express stress or past trauma.

  • new ways of relating to yourself and others that feel safer and more authentic.

My style is collaborative, compassionate and steady. I aim to offer a space where all parts of your experience are welcome – including anxiety, low mood, anger, shame, grief, or simply feeling “too much” or “not enough”.

This can be especially important if you are neurodivergent (ADHD/AuDHD) and have felt misunderstood, masked, or pressured to meet others’ expectations.

People come to therapy with me for many reasons, such as low mood, anxiety, traumatic or overwhelming experiences, burnout, big life changes, relationship difficulties, or feeling disconnected from themselves.

Sometimes we have spent years taking care of everyone else while neglecting our own needs. In our work, we can gently explore what feels difficult, what matters most to you, and move towards greater clarity, self-understanding and choice.

About My Approach

I am an Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, with an Advanced Diploma and BSc in Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counselling from Middlesex University. I am an accredited member of UKCP and a member of BACP, and work within their ethical and professional standards.

As an integrative therapist, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, depending on what feels most helpful for you. This might include exploring how you feel in the here and now, how past experiences may still be affecting you, or finding ways to support yourself as you move forward.

My approach considers the connection between mind, body, emotions, relationships and the nervous system. I am particularly aware of how our experiences can shape our sense of safety in the world, and how emotional distress can be held not only in our thoughts, but also in our bodies.

I also have additional training in trauma, neurodivergence, body psychotherapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I bring both professional training and lived experience of neurodivergence, alongside an understanding of the impact this can have on individuals and those around them.

I believe that we are all different, and that therapy needs to reflect this. What works for one person may not work for another, so our work together will be collaborative and tailored to your individual needs. Most of my work is centred around one-to-one talking therapy, with body awareness integrated where helpful.

Who I Work With

I work with adults aged 18 and over, and have experience supporting people from a wide range of backgrounds, both in the UK and internationally.

People come to therapy for many different reasons. You may be experiencing anxiety, low mood, trauma or complex trauma, relationship difficulties, loss, life changes, burnout, or a sense of feeling disconnected from yourself.

I also work with people who are ADHD, autistic, AuDHD, or exploring neurodivergence, and those who may have spent much of their lives masking, adapting to others, or feeling misunderstood.

Therapy can offer a space to explore what feels difficult, understand yourself more deeply, and begin to relate to yourself and others with greater clarity, compassion and choice.

How Therapy Works

Counselling is often the beginning of a process, and the length of therapy varies from person to person. Some people find that a short period of counselling helps them work through a specific issue, while others choose longer-term therapy to explore deeper or more long standing patterns.

Sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place once a week at the same regular time. If you decide you would like to continue after an initial session, and I have availability that suits your schedule, we would agree a weekly slot that is yours for the duration of our work together.

Sometimes I begin meeting with people weekly so that we can get to know each other and establish the work. Later, we may move to meeting every other week if this better suits your needs, circumstances, or finances. This is something we can discuss together.

I use a written agreement that sets out fees, timings, holidays and cancellation arrangements. We can go through this in our first session, and you are very welcome to ask any questions before then.

Availability and Fees

I see clients in person in central Cambridge from Tuesday to Thursday.

I also offer online sessions, with more flexibility, including online sessions on Fridays.

Sessions are £75. I offer a limited number of reduced-cost places at £50 or lower for students and people on lower incomes.

GETTING STARTED

You may have questions, and it is really in meeting each other that we will discover whether I am the right therapist for you.

You are welcome to email me to arrange a brief exploratory phone call, with no obligation to continue. If it feels right, we would then arrange an initial session.

Starting counselling can feel daunting, and finding the right therapist is important. Building a safe, trusting relationship is central to how I work.
